February 2026 on the Shore

We've been digging through council meetings, tracking housing progress, and keeping an eye on transportation developments across the North Shore. As always, there's a mix of encouraging moves forward and frustrating roadblocks. Let's dive in - Martyn, Heather and Duncan.

🦟🦟 🦟🦟 Affordable? Nope. The house on the left is a single-family home with a suite in the bottom and a coach house. It’s on the market now for $4.6M. The site next door was a single-family home split into two lots, each with a single-family home (no suites). Guessing each will sell for ~$2.7M. Down one block on the same street new duplexes are selling for $2.5M. Photo: Heather Drugge

🐻🐻 The Globe and Mail named North Vancouver, Canada’s most livable city for 2025. Notably, they don’t make a distinction between the City and the District. Fine with us! We know how awesome the Shore is as a whole.

🐻🐻🐻The new Casano-Loutet bridge was craned into position across the highway in early February. Riding or walking along Lynn Valley Road is pretty unpleasant (if not dangerous) today. The new bridge will allow people to ride and walk across the highway — linking Lynn Valley with Central Lonsdale. Photo: a BNS member

🐻🐻🐻🐻The e-bike share is now North Shore wide with the addition of West Vancouver. Now you can rent an e-bike and drop it in any one of the bike parking areas in all three Shoreside municipalities. Yes, they are working on being able to drop bikes downtown and even further away, but that’s a next step. Photo: Heather Drugge

🦟🦟 🦟🦟There was a marathon public hearing (5.5 hours over two days) at District of North Vancouver about Chemtrade’s application to rezone the district portion of their site. The Port of Vancouver has said Chemtrade cannot manufacture chlorine on their lands, so Chemtrade is asking DNV for a zoning alteration to allow them to continue on District Land. It’s controversial because chlorine is a hazardous material if released and the district is planning more density in the adjacent Maplewood area.
