Slowly, autumn knocks at our door

This is the month when everything Better North Shore cares about: getting around safely, building enough homes, and reducing GHG emissions is on the table. We had a blast this fall with the all-candidates meeting and other municipal election-related activities. Thanks so much for being here with us. – Martyn, Heather and Duncan.

Municipal vote

If you’re a regular reader, you probably already visited our endorsements for council. But in case you didn’t, here they are again.

Vote4Tomorrow

Vote4Tomorrow is a voter guide to evaluate where local candidates stand on climate and environmental policies that will affect our future. Its goal is to inform the public of each candidate’s position on climate and environmental policies. Volunteers at My Sea to Sky developed it with input from community groups across British Columbia.

Vote to bike

HUB Cycling developed three policies it recommends city councils implement to make cycling and affordable mobility options like walking and transit more accessible to people of all ages and abilities. They asked all candidates across the region for comment. DNV Candidate Answers / CNV Candidate Answers / DWV Candidate Answers

Look up council records

It’s been interesting to see how AI is impacting council voting record transparency. This site shows what each council decided, who moved each motion where the record names them, and how each member voted, by councillor, by issue and by vote, linked to the official record.

If you are looking at the District of North Vancouver only, this page on the DNV website provides a record of the decisions made by council during their current term (2022-2026). You can sort it by issue, councillor, etc. There’s even YouTube video of the related discussion that took place during the Council meeting.

Council meetings

North Shore councils are quiet right now — we're in the election period, and no new committee/council agendas have been posted. The next regular council meetings for the District of North Vancouver and the City are scheduled for Nov. 2nd. The next meeting for West Vancouver is Oct. 26th. We'll be back to our usual council deep-dives once the new councils are sworn in.
