Ten years of tax increases on the Shore

Interesting things to note:

  • Tax rate changes lagged inflation spikes and drops. It takes a while for munis to adjust. The COVID years are interesting. Although inflation was shooting up, municipalities decided to keep taxes low because many people were out of work. In the post-COVID years, tax increases rose to make up for shortfalls.

  • District of North Vancouver numbers are approximate from 2016 to 2023, they weren’t always exaclty 3%, but close enough to it that is what shows on the website.

  • I was aiming to show that our munis artificially lower tax rates during election years, which I could not demonstrate.
